Now with the advent ofīootcamp for mac I have thought about switching since I don't have I have been using windows for a long time. Not sure if that was true but that's what I read. Soon Apple will be just another company like Dell except you won't be able to buy regular hardware for it like you can for a Dell and it will cost more for the same specs and it will run either a Unix OS or a Windows OS.Īctually I read something the other night that stated the newer versions of Windows, including XP, is really based on Unix. I just got a new video card and upped the RAM in my 3 year old PC with NO problems. You have to get MAC approved hardware for it, in most cases.

Last time I looked at any online or in store software selection there were 3-4-5 web pages or store isles to choose software for a Windows PC and maybe 1 page/isle for MAC. Software, just where do you buy software for a MAC. MAC's are now Intel based and OSX is lunux/Unix based. Never owned a MAC and have NO plans on ever owning a MAC, why would I. I have never had any real problems and or conflicts with any of them all running a version of Windows.
Some bought from major manufacturers, mostly notebooks a couple of desktops, and built by me. I've been using many different a Intel PCs for over 12 years. I'd have to agree with the above statements. I do not think I will look at PCs again for quite a while. I started using a PowerBook 2 years ago and recently got an iMac.
And the high quality of finish and components, together with the stability of the OS X definitely pulls the balance in favor of Apple. Now, there has been a change recently which you should not overlook: if you compare the cost of a Mac (desktop or laptop) with that of a PC capable of similar performace you soon realise they come indeed very close. In fact, even Linux - which is far better designed for stability and security - is no more that reliable (in my personal experience - I have been using Linux PCs for the last 10 years or so). Think of Windows: it is not just because it is a weak OS, but also because it must handle so many possible different devices and hardware parts that it just cannot be bulletproof. The drawback is that you are not a priori guaranteed that your system will work stably and reliably. The advandage of the open system was that it used to be far cheaper to buy a PC and make it like you wanted it to be - this (together with availabilty of pirate software at no extra cost.) has really driven the computer market to the levels we experience now. PC is an open system (meaning you can put together hardware components from many different manufacturers) whereas Apple has almost always gone proprietary (meaning that all components, even those made by third parties, must be certified by Apple). OBS Studio is free and is compatible with both PC and macOS, so it might be the best option, and you might not need to wait for Nikon's software to be released. It's unfortunate since many of the third-party programs come with a cost.
